The
BSCA Preliminary Certificate is the first of the BSCA Traditional Awards.
This
requires that you:

Hold
a cycling proficiency certificate or equivalent and
1.
Either
ride with normal equipment on a short club or school run, or
2.
Complete
and finish a competitive event, or
3. Complete a 400 meter ride in less than 1 minute

the bike with one foot on a pedal for 10 metres |

Riding
in pairs whilst leaning shoulder to shoulder and maintaining control |

13.
Dismount |
Cyclo
cross style dismount whilst on the move |

14.
Mount |
Cyclo
Cross style mount whilst on the move |

15.
Cone slalom |
Ride
a slalom course with a minimum of 7 markers at 2 pace intervals |

16.
Bottle off bucket |
Lift
drink bottle off bucket and replace at least 3 times in succession,
without feet touching the ground |

17.
Bottle off ground |
Pick
up drink bottle from ground 3 times in succession without feet
touching the ground. |

18.
Bottle hand up |
Receive
a drink bottle whilst riding, without stopping or putting a foot to
the ground. |
Skill
nos 10—18 are all useful for competitive cycling.
No
12 is always fun and improves confidence when riding close to others.
Nos.
13 and 14 are essential when riding cyclo cross as this involves lots of
getting on and off a bike and places are often made up or lost depending on
the skills learnt at this stage.
Nos
16—18 once again are very useful as you will need drink during all but the
shortest events and you don’t want to have to stop and lose places to do
so.
