BSCA administer 2 award schemes with quite different approaches:

Our traditional scheme rewards achievements measured usually by times achieved over a specified distance, or placings in competition, or by completing various levels of tour etc.  The scheme allows for up to 32 awards in different areas of cycling and we do not know of anybody ever having gained them all - How's that for a challenge?

The Trix scheme has been developed by BSCA and the other governing bodies within cycling and has been specifically designed to encourage the development of cycling skills from riding a straight line, to the advanced skills of bunny-hopping and endo's.  It is meant to be fun and is a challenge and we are awaiting the award of the first Elite award.

One of the 9 skills required for a Bronze Trix award
Ride a straight line of 15 m without deviating more than 75mm either side.

The traditional scheme Preliminary award requires:

1.  EITHER hold the Cycling Proficiency Award of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (which must be shown to the Examiner), OR Display to the Examiner a reasonable knowledge of the current Highway Code and traffic signs as they affect the cyclist.

2.    Pass in ANY ONE of the following sections:

(a)   Ride with normal equipment in school or club run.

(b)   Compete and finish in a competitive event.

(c)   Complete a 400-metre ride on grass in less than 1 minute.
